<Desc>Client Services: Street Youth Ministry (SYMin) serves street-dependent youth (clients) with three strategies: meet them where they are and provide some physical relief, engaged them in our core services where we build and help them build relationships, and help them make changes to their lives as they set goals and priorities for growth, healing and recovery. In 2023, SYMin completed our sixth year of operation in our rented facility near the University of Texas. We transitioned from entirely pop-up events in borrowed facilities prior to 2017 and by the end of the year in Dececember we were serving in that location as well as around Austin and San Marcos in six other pop-up locations weekly. We began moving into our new location in North Central Austin with a long-term lease. The previous location was no longer Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

<Desc>Internships: SYMin trains future leaders through our paid internship program. During the 10-week experience, interns are trained to lead volunteer-based, urban poverty-informed ministries. Some use their training to serve or start ministry work at their churches where they belong. Other use the internships to augment humanitarian aspects of their planned careers, e.g., teaching, legal, medical. A few stay with SYMin as team members. The Organization has developed a specific and repeatable training curriculum that all staff and interns receive, including a textbook on street youth culture, weekly video discussion of the book, weekly video training and handouts on practical skills, a weekly project to cement the learning in place, Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

<Desc>Volunteer Services: SYMin organizes and trains workers through our volunteer program. The easing of the pandemic has given us an opportunity to begin to regrow the program. In 2023, 667 volunteers (up 104% from the prior year) helped SYMin, and they contributed a total of 5,122 hours (up 65%). Volunteers made deliveries of food, clothing and supplies more than 2,000 times for a total estimated impact of $149,805 (up 6%). Recruiting, organizing, thanking, and sustaining hundreds of volunteers who show Gods love to clients in unexpected and delightful ways is what the program is all about. SYMin never tires of inviting people into ministry. This was the year that volunteerism returned in a big way after the pandemic. Some volunteers accept our invitation to serve clients directly alongside our team on a regular basis. Direct volunteering Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

        <FormAndLineReferenceDesc>Other</FormAndLineReferenceDesc>
<ExplanationTxt>Form 990,Part III, line 4a: available for long-term rental. In 2023 we served 1,598 unique clients (up 108%). This is a huge growth, but it is important to acknowledge that 1,111 of them were outside our age range when we first served them and are outreach-only clients. Our outreach brings us into regular contact with many community homeless of all ages, and we are providing what help we can without defocusing our teams, efforts and impact. We met 1,262 new homeless individuals overall, up 167% from the previous year. Much of that growth is in overage outreach clients. This goal goes hand in hand with increasing new clients in our age range. We met 248 new clients in our age range. Thats up 22% from the prior year. We met an average of 25.2 new clients each week overall and 5.0 per week in our age range. The team has done well! For all of 2023 we provided indoor services (as we did pre-pandemic) and a mix of outreach in other locations: outreach in six or more locations weekly, access to our Sunshine Store for clothing, showers, and supplies twice a day, several weekly events for healthy fun and relationship building in our Event Center, and nine weekly groups in our Learning Center to foster growth and healing. In December we began planning the transplant of these services to our newly leased location. Our strategy will be to transplant the services so they will be recognizable and available in exactly the same schedules but in our new location. In addition, we are adding outreach in the old neighborhood by the University of Texas several times a week to help clients transition and maintain contact. After we gain more operating experience and feedback in 2024, we plan to transform services to better take advantage of our new location. It is normal to see a growth in homeless youth rates following crises like the pandemic, starting about 18 months after the crisis passes. This growth continued for 2023. The extreme inflation of 2023 is likely to cause additional increase in client numbers in 2024. Our drop-in services (which include the Sunshine Store and Event Center) served 151 unique clients, up 54% from the prior year. We were able to provide 202 food pantry bags to clients who have moved into housing. We provided 381 camping food bags to clients still living in shelters or the streets. We continued our hybrid groups all year long, although most participants are in-person, serving 81 unique clients (down 37%). The transition from remote to in-person is slowing down this critical area a bit. Our Help Line served 222 people (227 last year) with resource information and referrals. Our learn and earn incentives program had 108 clients earning points (up 17%). Clients can also find these on our web site. Outreach focused on delivery of essentials, referrals to needed services, and delivery of on-the-spot guidance to 1,291 people of any age in Austin (up 280%) and 160 in San Marcos (165 the previous year). We distributed 1,775 outreach bags to people of all ages on the streets. The needs on the street are enormous post-pandemic. We maintained all our outreach locations in 2023, although we vary them based on seasons and closures in the neighborhoods. All four types of our service are designed to build relationships and rapport, including events such as weekly Game Night, Talent Night or Friday Fun Day (which features community guests or organizations and a theme). We design our groups to cultivate in our clients a desire for more stability, sobriety, reconnection with God and a faith home. These include weekly Bible Study, Prayer Group, Womens and Mens Support Groups, two weekly Peer Support sessions and two weekly Computer Labs featuring our Learn and Earn soft skills classes. SYMin staff and volunteers witnessed for Christ at least 746 times. We had 13,059 interactions with clients (up 24%). We had in-depth visits with clients 1,991 times. We shared 1,043 prayer requests for specific clients with our team (up 154%). Outcomes are very good for young homeless people, despite the pandemic and economic surges. They most often recover by finding a place in entry-level education, getting a job, or obtaining housing. SYMins guidance counseling services are designed to help clients as they set goals and priorities for changing their lives. In 2023, 211 clients in our age range when first served achieved goals (up 8% from the previous year). For the entire year, we had deep engagement with 32% (35% last year) of our clients, as defined by at least 40 hours service and 10 deep conversations. Of those engaged clients, 99% of them had goal achievements to change their lives. By comparison, in the group we served last year who didnt yet have deep engagement with our team, only 29% achieved goals. Those who engage in services with our amazing team are 3.4 times more likely to be making changes. Clients are diverse: 13% are Black, 32% Hispanic, 3% other. We specifically focused on removing barriers to Hispanic clients this year and the diversity doubled from last year. 45% are female.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4b: and hands-on daily work supervised by our team. In 2023, we trained 15 interns up 25%. Two were San Marcos-based interns. We trained seasonal interns to help in our drop-in for spring (1), summer (3) and fall (3). Three filled internships reserved specifically for former clients who have recovered from poverty but not yet found career paths. One position is for our Salesforce intern, a technical trainee identified by other programs as a minority or disadvantaged. All internships are paid to increase diversity. The interns received 701 total hours of training between them (about the equivalent of a semester-length course each). We make available mentoring from our staff during the internships so they can better find stable career paths. The intern team honed skills by providing 2,607 hours of work for the year (the equivalent of about 1.5 full-time team members). Two new team members also took the same training to advance their skills.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4c: options include helping in our Sunshine Store, our Event Centers or going with us on outreach: 92 helpers (up 21%) serving directly or behind-the-scenes for 2,807 hours (up 439%). Another invitation we make to volunteers is helping us with donated food and supplies, preferably upcycles, reusing, and giving things additional life for our clients. We keep our local and out-of-town volunteers informed by a real-time inventory list on our web site as well as needed items to sponsor or ship, drop-by, or sponsor. Our 302 (303 last year) in-kind volunteers helped us with plenty of food, clothing and supplies. They served 2,547 hours (up 52%). They gave an estimated $23,658 of food, which allowed us to provide food on all outreach encounters, 2,358 food bags as well as serve an estimated 1,689 meals! They provided an $96,138 in estimated value of clothing and other supplies. Almost every visitor gets an outfit, with very limited options for laundry available. Well be starting a laundry program in 2024, we hope! Service projects are available for groups again as well as help sponsoring and helping plan and deliver our themed Friday Fun Days. Each volunteer brings God-given gifts and skills not present in our staff. We know that many volunteers have moved from Austin but they have taken with them valuable information and experiences about homeless youth, who are present all over the country and can engage with us virtually and through our Help Line services.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4d:Public Awareness: Street youth are frequently invisible, not understood, and under-served. Our public awareness program has significantly increased the visibility of needs for our population, and several other faith-based workers, who first were with us as volunteers and at public awareness events, have begun serving street youth intentionally. SYMin raises public awareness by telling stories from the street, utilizing media, public speaking and class projects at all levels of education. We have resumed speaking opportunities. We provide downloadable and printed resources, lead service projects, supply public speakers, and publish awareness-raising newsletters. Our newsletter base in 2023 is 7,088, up 1%. Our unsubscribe rate is very low, and our click-through rates are reasonable. Bouncing emails still account for a significant loss in our public awareness program. The rate of bounced significantly increased during the pandemic. The newsletter base includes our quarterly newsletter (3,044, up 4%), prayer letter (961, up 1%), volunteer letter (1,312, down 15%) as we prune pre-pandemic volunteers from our list, collaborator letter (283, up 12%), SMS program (559, up 2%) and direct mail newsletter program (929, up 17%). We have 2,654 Facebook followers (up 7%). Print is the fastest growing medium this year. We will continue to monitor how the public wants to be made aware of interests like those we offer. There is great turmoil in the social media and communication landscape.</ExplanationTxt>
