After the students are awarded the grant based on established criteria, the student provides the Organization proof of enrollment. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 The Organization has members who pay annual dues. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a The Members of the Organization elect the Board of Directors. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Form is reviewed and revised by the Organization's Treasurer and tax preparer. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The Organization provides the Governing documents and Conflict of Interest policy upon request. The Organization provides an Annual Statement to its members. LUSO-American Education Foundation (LAEF) previously employed a consulting firm to compile its IRS Form 990 filings. Upon the election of a new treasurer in 2018, LAEF discontinued use of the outside firm to compile their 990's. The understanding was that the newly elected treasurer would prepare LAEF IRS Form 990 filings. Apparently, the Treasurer was unaware of this decision, and no filings were prepared for several years.There were also changes to the Board and Officers, who were unaware of the omitted 990 filings. LAEF became aware of their revoked tax-exempt status via the IRS correspondence, and has made the necessary changes to avoid future Form 990 filing omissions. The 2021 Form 990 was submitted as a hard copy filing as part of the reinstatement filing process. The hard copy filing was returned with a request to file electronically.
