SCHOOLS (LAUSD) We did not have any requests, and did not fund any major projects this year for the local schools that we support within our area. COMMUNITY/SAFETY AWARENESS - The Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce Business Improvement District was our major project this year assisting them to continue their improvements on Chatsworth Street to make it more attractive at night to residents by funding the Market Light Project. We provided funding to the Devonshire Volunteer Citizens Patrol funding for uniforms and equipment for the use by the local police volunteers at the Devonshire Community Police Station. Also provided additional funding as a Diamond Sponsor for the Oktoberfest 2023 fund raising project but limited to Hope of the Valley, M.E.N.D, S.O.L.I.D. V.F.W 2323 organizations that support our Granada Hills area. Provided additional funding to the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerces Street Faire 2023 and continue to be a Platinum Sponsor of their Holiday Parade 2023 funding judges and trophies. Provided funding to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW 2323) to assist in the remodel of their patio area. This project represents the third and final trifecta of projects that we have contributed to in past years to include remodeling of their kitchen area, and re-roofing the building. Once again we were a Platinum Sponsor for North Valley YMCAs Thanksgiving Baskets 2023 program to assist needy families over the holiday in the Granada Hills area. MISCELLANEOUS - We continued to allow the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce to maintain a $9,000 fund in 2023 to be used should the City start charging for the cost of traffic control related to the Holiday Parade, with our guarantee to replenish the fund to $18,000 fund should it become necessary. We continue to provide limited free storage space at our Community Storage Unit for organizations such as the Valley Disaster Preparedness Team for their canopies, documents and supplies, and documents for the SCL-CAC, which service our Trusts area, as well as to community members who have land use documents or letters that are being disposed of but are worthy of saving for posterity. We also continue to loan three 4-drawer file cabinets to the Granada Hills North Neighborhood Council. A requestor is asked to either present an oral (optional) and/or a written presentation of the project to include its scope, exactly what is being requested, its benefits, who or what organization will directly benefit, a written estimate of the cost from a qualified supplier, and at least one additional quote (two preferred). If a project is properly presented, and all questions posed have been addressed; the Board will deliberate in the absence of the requestor and make a decision to fund or not to fund. The requestor will be notified in writing of acceptance (including any conditions*) or telephonically including reasons if rejected. If a project is deemed worthy but not complete, a Board member(s) volunteer(s), and/or is assigned by mutual agreement, and will assume the responsibility for reporting the status, and/or wrangling the project through to completion by providing the necessary information, co-ordination and legwork before it is returned for consideration. In some cases (if the Board deems necessary) it will negotiate and purchase of requested items/services in order to simplify and/or expedite the financial proceedings. On occasions, the Board will initiate a project itself. Under this arrangement, a Board member or members will fulfill the same requirements as the requestor (shown above), including securing the approval of the designated recipients. *Note: One of the conditions in the acceptance letter if the check is made out to the grantee will require that they provide a letter and/or email to state that the project has been completed, and that the funds have been applied. If the Fund is paying for vendor(s) directly on behalf of the grantee to complete an approved project (typical), then this requirement is waived.
