While extensive searching has found nothing to explain and clarify this change (and has made the submission of this filing late) it is likely the result of numerous adjustments internally between bank accounts when our main account was hacked and had to be closed. A new account was opened, but in the process all the transfers from one account to another - with some admitted errors along the way - changed balances between accounts in some way that couldn't be followed. In the end, transactions are all correct and balances coincide with those at the bank, so it is determined that the discrepancy is just an internal accounting issue; and the total equity is in balance after this adjustment. I am a working volunteer director of 3 non-profit organizations that are currently understaffed; and am responsible for all accounting and personnel duties for a full-service animal shelter, a low-cost spay neuter clinic and a horse rescue. Second, I'm having some non-serious health issues that have required several trips to Cleveland Clinic for testing this spring. Third, when I initially went to the IRS website as I always have, to select Form 990 Online to prepare my three 990s, I found the site had been changed drastically; and after at least 2 hours of searching for that list of providers, I pulled the receipts from last year's filing to get the correct name, etc., entered it, and thankfully your wonderful site came up, complete with all our information. I also attempted to file electronically a form 8868 application for extension of time to file. But even though it was listed, electronic transmission was not permitted, and snail mail would have made it arrive after the fact. So I determined it would be best to just go ahead with the 990 filing. And last, the total equity in our Quick Books program changed by $15,339 between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. This is likely due to having to close our main bank account and open a new one when we were hacked for about $17,000. It was replaced eventually by the FDIC, but the internal transfers between multiple accounts created discrepancies in these balances. Researching this took days. However, a complete review shows all 2023 transactions are correct, and all balances reconcile with the bank, so I'm charging this up to internal accounting issues that will not be recurring going forward and do not essentially impact the validity of the figures on the 990. I thank you for the opportunity to explain. I am sorry and embarrassed to be so late, even though I am fully aware of the due date.
