We work with local municipalities to create climate action plans, we hold events to raise awareness, we publish a local magazine to provide information and stories to motivate action, and we focus on addressing envrionmental injustices experienced by our underserved communities. Surge Magazine - We publish a local climate magazine quarterly. This involves writing the articles, and hiring local writers, poets, and artists to create content. This was given to our members, as well as shared widely with the local community. Overall, we distributed several thousand copies across the Lowcountry in 2023. 15982 Events and Community Activities - We hosted several small climate awareness related events. We also held three big events: 1) SURGE talks event which featured local speakers doing something related to climate change, 2) Tour de Earth Day, a eco-friendly bike tour around Charleston with stops and speakers along the route, and 3) Beachniks Love Folly, a concert to raise awareness about climate change. Our members worked with the city of Charleston and the county to develop Climate Action Plans. We hosted monthly meeetings with other local groups to discuss current initiatives and make plans for future events/activitis. 35297 Envrionmental Justice We developed our Environmental Justice Profile, a digital platform that will help communities assess their level of exposure and vulnerability to 28 different dimensions of environrmental and social justice harms.
