St. George Rosenwald School Restoration. Film documenting the restoration of a 1927 Rosenwld School in St. George, SC. The school once served as the center of a vibrant African American Community in the town. The school is under consideration for inclusion in the proposed Rosenwald National Park. Longleaf has aided in this effort. The school is completed and is preparing for grand opening. It will also include a Division of the Children's Museum of the Low Country. 9232 8755 Rosenwald Schools of Virginia. 30 minute film documenting the unique role the Rosenwald Schools played in educating African American children in Virginia during the Jim Crow era. Virginia is the birthplace of Booker T. Washington and is the home of Hampton Institute where he was educated and later taught. The film will also highlight several other notable African Americans who made major contributions to black education in Virginia with the hope that this will be used to develop understanding of how difficult it was for African American children to get a decent education and the role Rosenwald Schools played in overcoming this difficulty.. 20000 4331 Siloam School Restoration. Film documenting the moving and restoration of the Siloam School to its final home, The Charlotte Museum of History. Siloam School is the last of the Rosenwald design school remaining in Mecklenburg County. It was moved to the grounds of the Charlotte Museum of History where it will become a permanent exhibit portraying the history of African American education in the setting of a 1927 school house restored to the original. 9610 3579 Longleaf Productions has undertaken, with the help of the NC Humanities Council and several HBCU's in the state, an offering to show the film "Unlocking The Doors Of Opportunity - The Rosenwald Schools Of North Carolina" to hold public forums in order to bring the message of the film to as many people as possible.
