AVI USA also promotes, wherever, whenever possible: understanding and peace between nations and individuals, a living embodiment of an actual human unity, an environment for unending education, and constant progress for humankind.During fiscal year 2023, AVI USA supported 67 individual charitable projects in Auroville. For some of these projects, our support was in the form of grants to further their work. For others, we provided coaching and technical support to enhance their capacity. And some we actually organized and oversaw directly.All the grants that we sent came from our own fundraising activities, including public awareness campaigns, donor cultivation and stewardship, and grant writing. And we also sent monthly email newsletters, our annual print newsletter called Connect, and hosted several livestream events that connected our global audience with people doing interesting and innovative work in Auroville. During FY23 we sent grants for local innovative educational projects like The Learning Community, which strives to build a community where children and adults can grow more conscious of themselves, each other and the environment, by learning and working together. We also sent funds for Deepam School for Students with Disabilities, which nurtures the talents and gifts of 25 students with special needs from the rural villages around Auroville and provides early intervention support to an additional 30 local youth with disabilities. And we supported Pitchandikulam, which has done extensive research into indigenous ecology on the Coromandel Coast and participated in extensive restoration projects that have brought back nearly extinct species to rebuild the native forests of the area, as well as indigenous entho-medicinal forests that provide a link to the ancient health and healing practices of Tamil Nadu.And we supported projects like Aurokiya Eye Care which aims to eliminate preventable blindness in the Vanur Talak, Sanskrit Research Institute which conducts deep research into the development of Sanskrit and develops free software to support global study of the language, and Horse 2 Human which offers horsemanship trainings and horse therapy sessions for youth, including young people with special needs.We also developed the Flourish project in Auroville. Flourish offers free training, coaching, and technical support to commercial units in Auroville in areas like accounting, leadership, marketing, strategic planning, and operations management. It also houses an activity called BEAM that provides similar kinds of trainings and coaching to service-oriented units. AVI USA hired, trained, and managed the leaders of these two teams, supporting their planning and execution throughout the year.In February, the internationally renowned musician Krishna Das visited Auroville and gave a free concert that was attended by over 3,000 people. We oversaw the entire endeavor, from coordinating with Krishna Das and his team, securing the location and sound equipment, and recruiting and overseeing over 100 volunteers.
