<PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>Heart of Hospice Foundation works to fulfill the needs and dreams of hospice patients and families. While insurance and Medicare pay for the basic components of hospice care, patients often have particular needs that are not covered; for example, financial hardship due to diminished income and special needs. To meet these needs and provide a fuller, more joyful hospice experience for our patients and families, Heart of Hospice Foundation runs three main programs: Joyful Hearts, Good Neighbor, and Life Celebrations. During 2023 the Foundtion helped 152 individuals and their family members. The Foundation's mission statement is to provide a fuller, more joyful hospice experience for our hospice patients and families serviced by Bristol Hospices by providing emotional and finical support where needed. In addition to the individuals and families served, the Foundation provided 92 holiday meals to hospice patients living at home and their family members.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>

It funds celebrations for special occasions such as birthday parties and holiday meals if families are unabel to do so. It provides simple items like milkshakes or muffins or coffee drinks to brighten a patient's day.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Examples of Joyful Hearts Expenditures: The Foundation helped Maggie celebrate her 100th birthday with huge ballons, a special birthday card, and a beautifully decorated cake. George was bedbound and spent much of his time looking othe the window near the head of his bed. The Foundation brought him a bird feeder and bird food, which a volunteer hung on a pole right outside his window. Now he was able to watch the birds attracted to the feeder. Examples of Good Neighbor Expenditures: The month Sylvia's husband died, she struggled to make ends meet. The Fundtion paid her utilities for that month and gave her a $100 gift card for the local grocery store. William was homeless when he became a hospice patient. He found a place to stay, but had no bedding for his bed. The Foundation bought him sheets, a pillow, pillow cases, and blankets. Ida lived in a memory care unit. One day her glasses disappeared, and were nowhere to be found. Ida was devastated because she could not see cleartly to read--her favorite pasttime. The Foundation was able to get a new prescription through her eye doctor and new frames. Now Ida could enjoy reading again. Samuel, another bed-bound patient, loved to fish and wanted to fish one more time. So the Foundation created a "pond" (plastic) and filled it with toy fish. Using a plastic fishing pole, he was able to fish from his bed. Foundation volunteers fixed a flower bed for Caroline who loved her garden but could no longer tend to it. The Foundation made it possible for her to enjoy her flower garden again. Norma loved to color but lived in an isolated area. The Foundation provided adult coloring books and colored pencils for her to enjoy. Many patients were provided hospital beds at home but did not have sheets for the beds. The Foundation purchased sheets for them. Some of our hospice patients live alone and the Foundation has provided medical alert buttons for their safety. The buttons are programed to call hospice. Examples of Bereavement Art (part of the Celebration of Life): When the patient passes, their loved one is provided with a painted stone, or a glass stone, or a stone heart. These mementos are provided by the Foundation in honor of their loved ones.</ExplanationTxt>
