<Desc>Survivor Support: The support group was established specifically to meet the emotional, physical, cultural and spiritual needs of African American women with breast cancer. This year, 22 events were held ranging from monthly traditional support group meetings with a cultural sensibility to community events such as theatre productions, physical movement experiences, and mental and emotional wellness gatherings. Sharing meals is a crucial part of building our survivor community. We offer 1-1 support from licensed therapists and cancer coaches. We have returned to house and/or hospital calls. A total of 13,612 individuals (in-person and virtually) were touched by the Survivor Support Program. The feedback received from participants continues to reveal their experience of support and empowerment. To that end, we will continue to strive for expansion and improvement by increasing our reach to digital participants and hope to increase our budget and capacity to serve more survivors.</Desc>

<Desc>Research - Project SOAR: (Speaking Our African American Realities) continues to evolve. We officially began investigations to develop interventions based on our original 2020 findings. Project SOAR seeks to better understand the unique challenges Black women with breast cancer face, and its psychological impacts. We returned to the original three California cities. Sacramento and Oakland Gatherings were held in person and Los Angeles was held virtually. Our aim was to find out if the Gatherings influenced how they navigated the COVID-19 pandemic. An overwhelming majority responded that the experience of the Gatherings greatly influenced their choice to prioritize self-care over caring for others, which improved their psychological well-being.</Desc>

<Desc>Advocacy: We believe that informed citizens are empowered patients. Therefore, Carries TOUCH uses an Ethnocentric Patient Centered approach to illuminate patient voices that drive public policy. We hosted three virtual policy education and engagement events. We prioritized the following public policy and advocacy goals:1) Discussions on how to access high-quality care for patients, including access to the best treatments regardless of cost and access to Medicaid and Medicare. 2) How to alleviate patient burden by identifying policy barriers to inclusion, systemic hurdles, financial toxicity, and barriers to accessing new and innovative treatments. 3)Breaking down the impact of the then, recently passed Inflation Reduction Act on patients. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the empowerment of Black women and women of color in understanding the importance of getting involved in holding policy makers accountable in ensuring all patients can successfully navigate the healthcare system, have access to high-quality care, and can participate in shared decision-making.</Desc>
