FOCUS serves hungry bodies and souls through its feeding programs. Breakfast Club provides more than 18,000 meals year round and helps connect guests with much-needed services such as housing. The Interfaith Food Pantry located at Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Food Pantry at First Church in Albany offer emergency food supplies to families and individuals. FOCUS also gives voice to critical issues of hunger and homelessness and joins with other orgnanizations to raise awareness of the impacts and needs to those living in poverty. 0 0 544633 0 0 Programs to Address Food Insecurity: FOCUS operates a full time Interfaith Food Pantry as well as a Breakfast Program in downtown Albany. During 2023, the need for services and resources provided increased significantly from the prior year. The Breakfast Program served 18,181 Breakfasts and 15,990 Lunches while the FOCUS Interfaith Food Pantry provided 134,835 Meals. FOCUS was awarded certain grants mid year from HPNAP and Nourish NY and were able to increase expenditures to meet those needs for direct food and supplies for the programs by over 350%. As a result of the funding from Nourish NY, the newly formed FOCUS Food Network uses those funds to distribute NY-grown food among ten other food panties in rural and urban areas of Albany County. Community Ministry: The Director of FOCUS oversaw various worship services during he year that brought together the six congregations of FOCUS Churches along with other community friends that provide the primary core of support for the organization in fulfilling its mission. Through this, pastoral care and support was provided to people on the street, using grants of cash or vouchers for service, where appropriate. Advocacy for legislation and government funding supporting living wage levels and food security for the poor was pursued with the public and with government officials. Learning Support for Children: In coordination with the Albany Public School District, FOCUS prepared grade-appropriate back packs filled with basic school supplies. Board Members (members and officers of the Board of Directors) and key employees are responsible annually and at any time a conflict or potential conflict may arise to disclose the conflict and take action as outlined within the Policy. Prior to their initial election (or hiring in the case of key employees) and annually thereafter, Board members, key employees review the Conflict-of-Interest Policy and renew the Annual Conflict Disclosure Statement. Annual Statements are reviewed by the Executive Director, President of the Board of Directors, and the members of the Board of Directors, as necessary, and filed in the officer of the FOCUS churches. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The Personnel Committee of the Board periodically reviews the performance and compensation of the Executive Director which includes comparable compensation data for similar positions. Based on the Personnel Committee's presentation of their recommendations to the Board, the members of the Board subsequently discuss, potentially alter, and vote on the compensation for the Executive Officer. The Executive Director is the only employee meeting the definition of a top management official. The Executive Director conducts or reviews annual performance reviews for all other employees and determines and approves the employees annual compensation based on performance and available funds consistent with the board approved budget.
