These classes served the schools up to 120+ students and included everything from nature literature to field biology to outdoor physical education. All camps took place outdoors in local parks including Alton Baker Park and our Learnscape as well as Mount Pisgah Arboretum Hendricks Park and the Cascades Raptor Center Ridgeline Trail. This year as in the past we hosted multiple bilingual Spanish-English camps. Over 50 children received scholarships through our Every Child Outside Fund and community partner support total $11,500+. Note that these fund releases which are not reflected in income here supported this program. This year we made a new effort to provide small stipends for our teen Outdoor Leaders and college interns and were able to provide 12 teen stipends of $500 and five intern stipends of $1000. This made assisting with our programs accessible to more young people. These all outdoor nature-science and adventure based programs served kids throughout the school year. Volunteers and interns donated 580+ hours to these programs in 2023. We do park caretaking & education in turn for free use of a city-owned building & its grounds where we maintain a Learnscape Garden and Outdoor Classroom. We are still working to rebuild our volunteer corps and re-connect with teachers. Fifteen volunteers contributed 267 hours of their time to lead walks for these programs. At the 2023 rate of $33.49 an hour that time has a value of $8,942! 4101 0 0 Park Restoration and Caretaking: Nearby Nature recruits community individuals as well as groups to do work parties and caretaking projects in Alton Baker Park. We also have a TAG Team Taskforce Against Graffiti that maintains a lovely stencil mural that we created in 2018 on the Frohnmayer Footbridge. In 2023 we were able to do several community park clean-ups as well as work with student interns on a regular basis throughout the year. 6550 0 3072 Special and Community Events Green Start Play Days Nature Quests School Visits and Other Youth Programs: Green Start Play Days are monthly group events that happen throughout the year that are a very popular way for families who have young children to learn about and participate in our programs. The annual Haunted Hike drew 361 people in 2023 and volunteers donated 172 hours to the events fun costumed critter walk craft activities and games. At the 2023 volunteer rate of $33.49 an hour this time had a value of $5,760!
