This fund acknowledges the threats facing the hill country such as population growth, economic development, and frequent droughts. WA and TESPA have joined forces to protect our water and build an educated citizenry willing to fight for their water. This fund supports science monitoring and research toward sustainable water management solutions, education campaigns to engage landowners, developers and decision makers, policy development through coalition building, collaboration, science-based policy and advocacy, and legal defense to protect water quality and availability. 365531 313753 143345 Watershed Protection & Conservation Science-The Watershed Association protects vital water resources through scientific monitoring, policy development, and collaborative watershed management. Since 2003, we have collected quality-assured water quality data for the Texas Clean Rivers Program, monitoring the Blanco River and Cypress Creek for Clean Water Act compliance. Our organization initiated the EPA-approved Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan in 2008, the first in Texas to proactively focus on groundwater protection supporting surface water quality. In 2024, we achieved a significant milestone through an interlocal agreement with Hays County, the cities of Wimberley and Woodcreek, and the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. This innovative partnership funds water quality monitoring and implements watershed protection strategies through a dedicated County Watershed Coordinator position. The Association continues to serve on the Jacob's Well Groundwater Management Zone initiative, working with the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District and regional stakeholders to establish drought triggers and management practices. The Wimberley Valley Watershed Association holds three conservation easements with enforcement rights on one additional easement. The Association holds conservation easements on a total of 251 acres in the Cypress Creek Watershed in Hays County, Texas. A conservation easement is a voluntary, legally binding agreement that protects the conservation values and ecosystem services of land by responsibly managing certain types of land uses or limiting development from taking place on a piece of property now and in the future, while protecting the propertys ecological and open-space values. The Association has the responsibility to monitor, inspect and enforce the easements. The Association easements include approximately 162 acres on the Valle Vientos Ranch, 7.19 acres on the Cypress Creek Nature Trail, 36 acres on the Sandau property, and enforcement rights on the 46 acre Jacobs Well Natural Area property. Part V Line 4 Intended Uses for Endowment Funds. The intended use of the endowment funds is to produce income to fund the operations of the Organization on a perpetual basis. Par III Line 4 The organizations collection consists of 55 "art kites," artistically unique and specially fabricated kites. This collection is instrumental in furthering the organizations exempt purposes because they are used as a compelling tool for awareness, education, and community engagement and help advance the publics understanding of our mission by speaking to more diverse audiences.
