      <PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) is an independent middle school dedicated to supporting our students in the present while preparing them for success in the future. We offer a challenging curriculum emphasizing the acquisition of organizational skills delivered in an engaging, collaborative environment that encourages the development of strong social skills. By recognizing and meeting the unique needs of early adolescents, our learning program equips students to thrive in college preparatory high schools and beyond.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>
      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>The largest expense for Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) during the past tax year was related to employee salaries. During this period, the school's second full school year, DBA employed the Head of School and two part-time teachers that made up the school's staff. The school is intended to serve students in grades 6-8, enrollment for this second year began with 8 students (2 in grade 6, 1 in grade 7, 5 in grade 8). Under the leadership of the Head of School and the staff, the fall semester was filled with a variety of energizing activities both inside and outside the classroom. In science, the 8th graders dove into Integrated Physics and Chemistry with experiments such as putting Mentos in diet cola and a STEM project to construct a bridge. The older students also enjoyed simulations in United States history on the settlement of Jamestown and an unsuccessful attempt to traverse the Oregon Trail. In 6th and 7th grade, students explored interdisciplinary connections as they completed constellation projects in astronomy while reading the science fiction novel A Wrinkle in Time. Studies in Greek history and mythology included reading a graphic novel version of Homer's Odyssey and creating a humorous short film of scenes from the book. Off campus, the school visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science for a planetarium show and the special King Tut exhibit. The spring semester saw enrollment increase by one student in grade 7 and brought an assortment of new and exciting learning experiences. The 8th graders were moved by powerful lessons, reading Unbroken, the story of American World War II hero Louis Zamperini, and exploring pivotal moments in the history of the Civil Rights Movement. The younger students were treated to a virtual tour of several famous national parks to study Geology. Multi-grade learning also occurred in United States Civics, which was highlighted by lively current events conversations. For field trips, the students enjoyed visiting Space Center Houston and attending a minor league baseball game. From April 7th to 11th, the students of DBA embarked upon a memorable adventure through the state of Texas. Departing from campus on Sunday afternoon, students, the Head of School, and parent chaperones drove to the Hill Country, where they were hosted by one of the student's family. The next day, all got to experience the historic solar eclipse, witnessing four full minutes of totality. The following day, school group drove to Austin, stopping at LBJ State Park to learn about the life and legacy of the former president. The next day, the school group toured the Texas State Capitol, enjoyed fun recreational activities, and experienced delicious Tex-Mex dinner on San Antonio's River Walk. The journey concluded with a visit to the Alamo in the morning before making the drive back to Houston. One of the year's most successful projects was the creation of the school's first yearbook. Students collaborated using an online platform to plan, design, and edit an original record of DBA's first two years in operation. The year concluded with impressive projects by both groups. The 8th graders completed an oral history essay based on an interview with a retired relative or neighbor, inquiring about the individual's life and their impressions on major historical artifacts from African, American, and Polynesian cultures. Finally, each 8th grade graduate gave a formal speech in the final Chapel service on what their DBA experience meant to them. May 18, 2024, saw the first graduating class of five 8th graders, with all five being accepted into different Houston area college preparatory high schools. For the 2024-2025 school year, DBA expects to continue to grow the enrollment number of students. To support this expected enrollment increase, DBA plans on hiring additional part-time or potentially a full time teacher.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>The second largest expense for Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) during the past tax year was related to facility tenant rent. DBA continued to be housed on the campus of Faith Lutheran Church on Bellaire, TX, and utilized two rooms instead of just one room. DBA compensated Faith Lutheran a monthly rent based on the number of weeks it utilized the two rooms each month during the school year. For the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, DBA expects to continue to grow the enrollment number of students. As a result, DBA plans to again be housed on the campus of Faith Lutheran Church and continuing to utilize two rooms with the possible addition of one more room. In addition, DBA expects to also pay rent for utilizing rooms over the summer break.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

This consisted of supplies and materials used by and and supporting the students, teaching curriculum, text books, library books, equipment and supplies for recess breaks and athletic activities, athletic event fees, school apparel, field trips, recognition/sponsored events, and yearbook activities. For the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, DBA expects to grow the enrollment number of students.
