Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The governing BOD during one of its monthly BOD meetings will collectively walk through the Form 990 filing as a group to answer/review the annual filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Any new agreement/vendor/contract entered into during the normal course of business- the BOD collectively reviews to ensure any & all conflicts of interest are identified and monitored. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 A formal request is submitted to the BOD by the party requesting the document. The Treasurer schedules a meeting with said party to review said document(s). Form 990, Part XI, Line 9 The $120,389.86 was result of the Academy amending various quarterly 941 tax returns to take advantage of the Federal Employee Retention Tax Credit offered by the Federal Government. The Academy accounted for these credits as a "Change to net assets" for this non-related business credit. Due to the growth of school, the Board decided to solicit proposals from various CPA firms to provide financial services to include: annual filing of 990, annual review of Academy's financials and internal control review. The selected CPA first order of business would be the filing of the annual Form 990. Historically, the annual 990 was filed by the Treasurer of the BOD who himself is a CPA. Three firms responded to the Academy's RFQ in the Spring of 2024. In April of 2023 one of the BOD members unexpectedly resigned and the BOD put the 3 CPA proposals on hold until a 5 BOD member was identified and selected to fill the vacant BOD seat. During the unforeseen event the 12/31/23 filing was overlooked. Upon receipt of a delinquent letter from the IRS, the Academy filed the late return within two business days. To mitigate this from happening again, a CPA will under contract by October or November of this year and will be filing the annual 990 reports.
