Expenses also include funds raised to cover the cost for community members to spay or neuter their dog and to supply the animal shelter with dog kennels, medications, and dog food. We called several times, after sending our information in to flip us from private to public charity status. We received a confirmation call in November of 2023 that it would be approved and to wait until after the first of the year for it to "flip" in the system. By February, it had not changed, and we made monthly phone calls. It was advised to file an extension, so we did, and we finally got public charity status confirmed in the IRS system. The extension was approved, and now we are filing.
