In FY 2021 we also did not meet the support test, having only 22% public support, but in FY 2020 we had 75% public support. Prior to 2021, in all past years we did meet the 33.3% support test. And for the Fiscal Year 2023, we expect to meet the 33.3% support test. Due to the pandemic, our activities and donations were curtailed for a few years; our investment income however remained substantial. So we failed the support test this Fiscal Year. We did however meet the 10% public support limitation this FY. Our organization typically attracts donations when we take up the support of a new house of worship for a new location. And the houses of worship we support are open to the general public. They serve the general public. Public Support typically comes from a number of different individuals and organizations, not from one family or organization. Our governing body is composed of three ordained monks and two lay followers of Vedanta, a universal philosophy and religion which teaches the divinity of human beings and the harmony of all religions. In sum, our organization normally meets the 33.3% public support rule, and is likely to do so in future; it is an organization which serves the general public; its governing body consists of three ordained clergy and two dedicated volunteers; it typically receives public support from a number of different sources. The reason for the lateness is my confusion over how to proceed, as the organization did not meet the 33 1/3% minimum public support. I consulted an accountant, and also spoke with an IRS employee over phone (help line) to help me understand how to proceed. This process added a day to the process of completing the 990.
