These buildings house a collection of artifacts including 18th and 19th Century household furnishings, costumes, textiles, agricultural and industrial tools and equipment, and archival materials. The buildings have not been considered part of the Society's collection. Costs of purchasing collections are recognized in the year of acquisition; proceeds from sales and proceeds from insurance recoveries are recognized in the year of sale or loss. The Society employs a curator who regularly monitors the collection to ensure that it is exhibited or stored in areas that are adequately protected from fire, theft and climate. Part III, Line 4: This nationally-recognized New England museum is open to the public and is devoted to maintaining, cataloging and preserving their historical collection of artifacts and dwellings. Part V, Line 4: The Society's Endowment was established to help fund the operations and capital improvements of the Society and its museums.
