Other schools are in Denver area but not convenient for children/teens to attend in-person. The school also provides online German language courses to adults in and around the Boulder Colorado area but allow adults from anywhere to attend the online courses. The school also provides some in-person courses for adults based on interest. Our language classes are open to students of all ages and skill levels The school provides adults the opportunity to take the A1 and A2 exams. Passing the A1 exam allows a student to request a visa to live in and passing the A2 is one of the criteria needed for seeking employment in Germany. The school provides teens the opportunity to take exams that if passed would allow Students to apply for admission to a German university. 0 0 123488 194227 For 2023 overall student enrollment increased by 46 percent from 136 students to 199 students. The increase was due to a large increase in classes taught for children. Children classes are now being taught in person full time which seems to have helped with the increase in enrollments. Some children and teen classes are taught online based on interest. Adult and Private lessons continue to be online and has helped attract students outside of Boulder County. With some in-person adult classes starting up again after the pandemic. Adults taking exams for German Language proficiency increased by 33 percent and all our adult students continue to pass the exams. Important to note here that by passing the A2 exam, students are eligible to work in Germany. The school also saw a 75 percent increase in teen class enrollment due to children students becoming teenagers and continuing their studies. The school offers exams for teens that will allow them admission to a German University. Classes are open to anyone and are advertised on the schools Website and Social Medica. The school continues to grow as evidenced by the need to use the 990 instead of the 990EZ this year. 1363 216 To cultivate an understanding and appreciation for the German culture, events are held during the year that are meant to be fun mostly for children and parents. The school held a Maifest event, St Martins or Lantern Walk event, and Lichterfest event this year. Due to the changing demographics of our students the school changed the name of the St Nicholas event to Lichterfest to be more inclusive of those that do not celebrate Christmas. The cost increased this year over past years as the events were larger and more students attended. The school does not charge for the events but relies on donations taken during the event. Some supplies are donated as well to help reduce the costs. Donations were up this year from prior years as the School added the ability to pay with credit card at the events. Schedule E, Part I, Line 4 The school does not track demographics or ask about these when a student registers. This is because there is no barrier to taking a class except the cost. As for scholarships and other financial assistance, the school does not advertise that assistance is available but has provided assistance from time to time for hardship reasons. We do not track these as they happen so infrequent. Schedule E, Part I, Line 6 The German Consulate in Los Angeles provides a grant to the school each year based on a combination of funds available to them and the expenses incurred for teaching children classes. Our school is one of many that receives this grant. Schedule E, Part I, Line 7 The school teaches the German language to anyone that registers for a class and does not ask about demographics during registration. There are no barriers in regard to race for taking a class. For this reason, the school does not see a need to complete this certification. Form 990, Part V, Line 1a We file 1099s electronically so are not required to complete a 1096 If we had completed the 1096 we would have listed 17 1099s filed with the IRS Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The 990 is provided in draft form to all Board members prior to filing. It is discussed at a Board meeting prior to filing that a volunteer is needed to review the 990. Adjustments are made after at least one Board member besides the Treasurer has reviewed and commented on the 990. The final is then sent to the Board at the time of filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The 990 and Financials are available to the public upon request. Form 990, Part IX, Line 11g The school employs teachers as contractors not employees as they do not work full-time for the school. The school pays the teachers an hourly wage based on the number of hours taught. Since this is the main function of the school this will be the largest expense for the school. Form 990, Part X, Line 8 Inventory will no longer be tracked. The cost of managing and tracking the books as inventory so they could be sold to students was outweighing the benefit. The school will continue to record revenue when books are sold and expenses when books are purchased. The net income should remain similar to past years.
