Among the tool room and bicycle repair guidance services to program participants, the program also donated bicycles to participants aged 12 and under, and distributed helmets, bike lights, and bike locks to low income and unsheltered residents that rely on their bicycles for transportation. This year, the program expanded it's "di it together" open shop hours, helping approximately 3,000 participants to diagnose and repair their bicycles. The Bike Church helped divert 469 bicycles from the waste stream, getting them back out into the community. This year, the program expanded youth services by opening youth hours on Wednesdays, so youth can work on their bike, earn a new bike, and learn mechanical and safe riding skills. Additionally, Bike Church mechanics supported two Santa Cruz City events, a bike fixing station at Earth Day, and a lights and helmet fitting during Open Street. By connecting with California's diverse communities and landscapes, and exploring social and environmental justice issues past and present, participants gain an unparalleled understanding of their place within the story of California - and the leadership skills and confidence to write the next chapter of that story on their own. The program facilitated two 7-day bicycle trips from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, facilitated a 6-day bicycle tour, and conducted a 2-day bicycle training for the Outdoor Educators Institute. 65778 16000 94498 This year, the Welcoming Network program assisted 53 people who were seeking asylum or were recent refugees. Over the course of the year, the program accepts referrals for new families and we saw other families become self-sufficient and no longer need accompaniment. The program accompanied 18 families over the past twelve months. It is a community textile arts and salvage workshop. This includes sewing, knitting, quilting, embroidery, crochet, and bookbinding, among other arts. The workshop is operated by volunteers and funded by participant donations. The Fabrica has sewing machines, generous amounts of fabric, zippers, notions, and other tools and supplies necessary for most sewing and yarn based projects. No one turned away for lack of funds. 2) SubRosa is a collectively run community space, a place to meet others, challenge our assumptions, and act on our passions. We strive to create a vibrant community for events, classes, meetings, organizing, performance art, studying, and more. No one turned away for lack of funds. 3) Tenant Sanctuary is a Santa Cruz legal-aid organization by tenants for tenants. Volunteers work with an attorney to counsel tenants. Tenant Sanctuary served all City of Santa Cruz residents regardless of immigration status. 4) Coastal Rail Santa Cruz advocates development of rail transit integrated with mixed use trail along the Santa Cruz branch line. Providing for pedestrians, bicycles, and passenger rail, our vision is consistent with the master plan for the Monterey Bay Scenic Sanctuary Trail. 5) The Santa Cruz Climate Action Network seeks to address the current climate change emergency, recognizing that failure to act quick will have devastating effects on future generations of humans other life forms. 6) Santa Cruz Community Orchard is a volunteer initiative that develops public fruit orchards in Santa Cruz, spreading the skills of sustainable urban agriculture and land stewardship while providing free access to ripe and nutritious produce. These highly participatory cultivated spaces invite people to reconnect to their food, nourish healthy bodies and healthy dialogue, and engage in our local economy of soil, sun, surf, fog, and future-forward ideas.
