His commanding officer then ordered him to shave in 24 hours, so we filed a lawsuit on his behalf as well as three other Muslim sailors, asking the Navy to allow them to grow their beards in accordance with their faith. In October of 2021, the Supreme Court granted, vacated, and remanded the case for further proceedings in the lower courts.
