<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Hosting an Annual Conference. The 37th International Mammalian Genome Conference (IMGC) was held in conjunction with The Allied Genetics Conference (TAGC) organized by the GSA in National Harbor area of Washington, DC March 6-10, 2024. The TAGC is a unique conference organized by the Genetics Society of America that fosters collaboration between biological research communities by alternating community-specific sessions with cross-community thematic sessions as well as many opportunities for training and networking. IMGS provides the contact for the mammalian-based research section of the meeting. . More than 2400 scientists participated in the TAGC. In the Mammalian community section of the conference, more than 240 scientists from twenty-three countries met at the 37th IMGC to share advances in mammalian genetics and genomics research. A diverse attendance of undergraduate (14), pre-doctoral (63) and post-doctoral trainees (20), early stage investigators, established researchers, clinicians, bioinformaticians, and computational biologists enjoyed a rich scientific program of 27 oral presentations and 102 posters in the fields of epigenetics, system genetics, developmental biology, cancer, human disease modeling, technical advances, and bioinformatics. Others followed virtually and through social media highlights of talks (#IMGC and #TAGC24). Social media has become an integral part of the IMGC as it complements the scientific content and facilitates ongoing discussions between scientists around the globe. The Trainee Symposium had 17 excellent talks of which 3 were selected for plenary presentation in the main meeting and IMGS recognized this achievement with the The Lorraine Flaherty Award. Twenty-six young scientists (14 URGs) were supported by this grant to participate in the 37th IMGC and many of the recipients spoke in the Trainee Symposium. The Verne Chapman Lecture was given by Dr. Beverly Mock (NCI/NIH). The Beverly Paigen Lecture was given by Dr. Gary Churchill (The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME), and the Mary Lyon Lecture was given by Dr. Clare Smith (Duke University, Durham, NC). New in 2024, the first IMGS Presidents Award was given to Dr. Jason Bubier of the Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME. Dr. Bubier presented a talk in a full plenary session dedicated to junior scientists from different communities who had won awards. Scientific Organizers of the 37th IMGC: Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena (UNC at Chapel Hill, NC), Yann Herault (IGBMC, Strasbourg, France), Laura Reinholdt (The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME). Mammalian Genome is a quarterly print and online journal which covers the latest developments in Mammalian Genome research and acts as an archival record of the same. As of 2023, it contains 34 volumes and 370 issues. In the same way that search engines make information on the internet easily accessible, Mammalian Genome makes research and data in this important field easily accessible. <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Mentoring Young Scientists. There are 5 primary ways this was accomplished. 1 The Mary Lyon Award: the IMGS has established the Mary Lyon Award for early-stage independent female researchers tenure-track Assistant Professor or equivalent. The award covers expenses for the recipients to participate in an IMGS Conference and give an oral presentation of their work. Dr. Clare Smith was given the Mary Lyon Award for 2024. 2 Scientists-In-Training Scholarships. IMGS sponsors subsistence scholarships for students and postdoctoral scholars to attend and present their research at the IMGC. These awards are selected from trainees who submit abstracts and request scholarship support. All recipients are required to attend the Student Satellite Symposium. The awards typically cover housing, registration, and travel depending on availability of funds. The IMGS Oral Presentation Award winners for 2024 were: Rachel Cosby and Daniel Shaw. 3 Student Satellite Symposium: A unique feature of the IMCG is a satellite symposium designed as a venue for student and postdoctoral scholars to give a talk and interact with other trainees as well as members of the IMGS Secretariat. Members of the Secretariate judged the presentations and the top 4 were selected to receive Lorrain Flaherty Awards cash. The 2024 award recipients Michelle Aires, Mandy Eckhardt, Emily Moore, and Candice Young. 4 Student Awards. Another unique an important feature of the IMGC is the recognition of outstanding presentation by scientists-in-training. The Verne Chapman Young Scientist Award is a cash prize, presented for the most outstanding oral presentation with the greatest potential for impacting the future of mammalian genetics. The recipient for the Verne Chapman Young Scientist Awards for 2024 was Mandy Eckhardt. Additional awards were given as follows: The IMGS Oral Presentation Award winners for 2024 cash and a book from Springer-Verlag: Rachel Cosby and Daniel Shaw. The IMGS Poster Award winners for 2024 cash or book: Juliett King, Elysabeth Otte, Gabrielle Quickstad. 5 Mentor Meal. To further enhance the training experience, starting in 2009, one meal provided during the conference was designated as a Mentor Meal. A group of established, successful scientists with varied positions including academic, industry and administrative sit with junior participants, who can seek career, publishing or other advice in an informal setting. This has become a highlight of the IMGC to many of the trainings.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
