As the leader in the production, synthesis and socialization of actionable data and insights for all Arizonans with a primary focus on the Black community, we supported our mission by accelerating the development of the Arizona Black Business Database, providing visibility and access for Black entrepreneurs across the state. We launched our maternal health campaign with a goal to enhance awareness and knowledge of Black Maternal and Infant Health in Arizona while continuing our work in 2024 with a White Paper series with videos starting in April.Our African American Leadership Institute in Phoenix and Southern Arizona completed its 12th and 3rd cohort. As we look forward to 2024, the word that encapsulates our vision is "Expansion." In the fall of 2017, the State of Black Arizona began to assess and enhance the content and structure of AALI, addressing the evolving needs of the community. The primary objective of the African American Leadership Institute is to leverage participants' strengths and life experiences, fostering personal and professional growth while encouraging genuine expressions of identity and practical visions for advancing Black representation in influential roles throughout Arizona.Volume V- Driving Local Investment of Black ArizonansDriving Local Investment in Black Arizonans is the fifth volume of the State of Black Arizonas series of publications focused on telling a data-driven story that promotes inclusivity and positive change in the Grand Canyon State. Volume V builds on the State of Black Arizonas commitment to disaggregate data that reveal truths and challenges and highlight opportunities to address disparities impacting the states Black community. It lays bare inequitable outcomes for Black Arizonans on key metrics of progress. It is the basis for ongoing conversations with community, business, education, and elected leaders committed to capitalizing on the strength of a diverse, equitable and inclusive Arizona.State of Black Business Report (3.0)The report covers key data points related to Black entrepreneurship rates, lack of access to capital and undercapitalization that have been assembled in a concise snapshot of Arizonas African American populations contributions to the local economy. In parallel, the first analysis of these data points last year brought to light the challenges to overcome and the opportunities to expand the presence of Black businesses within the State. Action steps have been taken throughout the year and their progress will be shared.Maternal Health Social Awareness CampaignOur goal is to increase awareness about Black Maternal and Infant Health in the State of Arizona by providing access to data, publishing white papers, and convening community meetings to elevate this issue to community visibility, examine policy implications, understand proactive clinical measures, and move this awareness in the direction of the vital power of collective action. Racial Justice CollaborativeSeveral Arizona leadership programs launched the Racial Justice Curriculum. In our efforts to educate individuals on how to tackle racial bias that disproportionately impact Black, Latino, Asian, Native, and Indigenous community in Arizona. The goal is to have a shared language for discussing race, equity and inclusion practices, shared analysis all working toward racial justice. Black Business DatabaseThe Black Business Database is the first and only community-driven data resource and research tool focused on Arizonas Black-owned business ecosystem. Through a user-friendly GIS-based interface, the Black Business Database will allow users to access highly localized data on Black entrepreneurship in combination with other economic, demographic, and geospatial data, to study characteristics, trends and impacts related to Arizona Black-owned businesses.
