General explanation attachment Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 1) The goals are: to encourage interest in matters of historical significance to the Westfield community; to collect, preserve and display objects of historical worth and interest, such as photographs, documents, maps, artifacts, oral and video history; to develop understanding and knowledge of our community heritage. The headquarters of the Westfield Historical Society are at the Reeve History and Cultural Resource Center (314 Mountain Avenue). While the WHS owns the Miller-Cory House museum, a living colonial museum circa 1740, located at 614 Mountain Avenue, it is operated by Miller-Cory House volunteers. The WHS interprets the Reeve History & Cultural Resource Center as an 1870s Victorian period home which is in the architectural Italianate style. It is a National Register Site; and locally, is a site on the Four Centuries in a Weekend event. It is open to the public regularly and has a number of different events and programs taking place at the center. The Reeve History & Cultural Resource Center is furnished with largely donated furnishings in the Victorian period and exhibits are constantly changing to celebrate historical events or collections. There are a number of events, such as the annual AppleFest where the public is invited to participate. Groups of schoolchildren on field trips, scout troops, and corporate volunteer teams visit the site periodically throughout the year. The WHS owns an extensive collection of archives, which includes books, photographs, postcards, artifacts and maps, and often is used to research genealogy of families, homes and neighborhoods of Westfield and the surrounding communities.
