      <PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) is an independent middle school committed to providing students transformative learning that cultivates reflective minds and compassionate hearts. DBA seeks to be a leader in emphasizing teamwork, imagination, and courage to help young people achieve a superior education.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>
      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>The largest expense for Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) during the past tax year was related to employee salary. During this period, DBA employed only one individual, the Head of School Eric Lerch who was also the sole teacher. After two years of planning and preparation, DBA opened for the 2022-2023 school year on 8/16/22. The school is intended to serve students in grades 6-8, and this first year started with an enrollment of 5 students (1 in grade 6, 4 in grade 7). Under the leadership and instruction of the Head of School Mr. Lerch, the fall semester began with Life Together Week, a community orientation grounded in the school's values. Throughout the fall, Mr. Lerch had the students immersed in a variety of activities as part of a dynamic learning program. Some highlights included using colorful cereal to calculate ratios, competing to make the most money as 18th century traders, and creating an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos. In addition, Mr. Lerch had the school venture out for field trips to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Alley Theater. The fall season also featured the school's first interscholastic athletic competitions in the sport of cross country. Above all, Mr. Lerch ensured the students made substantial progress in their study skills, especially in the adoption of a useful organizational system. The spring semester saw the enrollment increase by one student (grade 7) while one of the original students (grade 7) withdrew. Mr. Lerch began the spring with January Jump, an interdisciplinary course selected by the class on the social and cultural significance of the Walt Disney Corporation. Mr. Lerch presented a variety of learning experiences where students enjoyed scooping treats like Galapagos finches, simulating World War I trench warfare, and discussing beloved characters in the literary classic Animal Farm. Students also completed impressive projects in the cooking of Hispanic cuisine, the presentation of extensive research on a modern country, and the drawing of the map of the world from memory. Mr. Lerch led additional forays into the city involving visits to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Houston Zoo. The most unforgettable experience for many students was the overnight trip planned and led by Mr. Lerch to Lake Somerville State Park. Students spent three days camping in the great outdoors, preparing their own food, and exploring the natural surroundings. In the end, Mr. Lerch was able to help the students make incredible progress in academics while honing skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. DBA's exceptional college preparatory curriculum developed by Mr. Lerch achieves strong growth in core academic skill areas. Testing conducted in the fall and spring terms showed substantial improvement in math and reading scores. In a class survey, students reported the highest agreement possible to the statement "I learned more this year than in previous years." In addition, parents reported an extremely high level of satisfaction with their experience at DBA and praise the boost in confidence and self-esteem students have gained from the school. For the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, DBA expects to grow the enrollment number of students. Depending on the increased number, DBA plans to support student increases with the hiring of part-time teachers to supplement Mr. Lerch as Head of School.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>The second largest expense for Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) during the past tax year was related to facilities. When DBA opened for the 2022-2023 school year, it was housed on the campus of Faith Lutheran Church (4600 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, TX 77401) utilizing one room of approximately 562 square feet. DBA compensated Faith Lutheran a monthly rent based on the number of weeks it utilized the room each month during the school year. For the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, DBA expects to grow the enrollment number of students. As a result, DBA plans to again be housed on the campus of Faith Lutheran Church and utilize one additional room of approximately the same size of the current room while continuing to pay a monthly rent.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

This consisted of supplies and materials used by and supporting the students, teaching curriculum, textbooks, library books, supplies for recess breaks and athletic activities, athletic event fees, school apparel, fieldtrips, and recognition. For the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, DBA expects to grow the enrollment number of students. <ExplanationTxt>Dietrich Bonhoeffer Academy (DBA) Inc (EIN 85-3349190) filed Form 990-N (e-Postcard) for prior tax years 2020 and 2021. For tax year 2022, DBA reached the threshold for filing Form 990-EZ. However, there was a mis-interpretation of the filing deadline thinking the deadline was 5 months after the Fiscal Year end date of June 30, 2023, which would be November 30, 2023. On realizing the error, Form 990-EZ has been completed and is being submitted 14 calendar days late. The DBA Treasure will ensure all future filings will meet the required filing date.</ExplanationTxt>
