Funds were used to cover funeral expenses of their expired relatives. These grants assisted the recipients to cover part of the cost of the funeral expenses. Recipients of the grants were required to provide evidence of the death of their relative, including the Death Certificate and other documentation. Affected members of the Kenyan community initially presented their reports to the Officials of the Governing body (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, or Assistant Treasurer). The Chairman then convened a meeting of the full Council of the Governing body who sat and deliberated on the reported issue. Funds/Grants were then allocated out of the reserve funds to expedite the funeral process. At the same time, the Governing body initiated a fundraising campaign from Members of the Kenyan Community and well wishers, to replenish the Reserve funds kitty. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 MDKO invites all Kenyan immigrants or Permanent Residents living in the State of Maryland to become Members of the organization. The Members are called upon to contribute towards MDKO Fundraising activities whenever there is a need to provide grant(s) to any Kenyan who experiences a disaster as defined by MDKO. Disaster may include the death of a family member or relative, Natural disasters, or a need to settle and support new Kenyan Immigrants settling in Maryland USA. As of June 30th 2024, MDKO had 805 Members. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a As of June 30th 2024, MDKO had 805 Members. These Members are responsible for electing the 11 Members of MDKO Board of Directors or Governing Body. Nominations for the Board Members is held every year in July, and elections are held also in July at the Annual General Meeting. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b MDKO has established a consistent method of soliciting comments and inputs during the preparation of Form 990. Form 990 was distributed to all the 11 Members of the Governing body one week before submission. Members were invited to submit their comments to the secretary. The comments were carefully reviewed and were incorporated into the final document. The final Document was presented at a Zoom Meeting of the Governing Council before electronically filing the same. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The Chairman of the Governing Council is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that there are no conflict of interest arising from the activities of any of the Council Members. The Chairman is mandated to report any Conflict of interest issues to a full Council of the Governing Body. If a Member of the Governing Council is determined to have a Conflict of Interest, the Governing Council is mandated to ask the Member to rectify the situation. If the Member having the Conflict of Interest fails to comply, then the Governing Council is mandated to ask the Member to tender their resignation from the Governing Council. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The Constitution and the Bylaws of MDKO are posted on the organizations Website at https://mdkomaryland.org/. These are open to the General Public. MDKO also publishes its activities through various Christian Churches in Maryland. In addition, all Governing documents can be viewed by appointment at the Organization's registered office.
