Our Poets in the Schools program provides working poets to lead writing workshops for students and other learners in classrooms, after-care centers, community centers, and other public spaces. We provided 374 hours of instruction this fiscal year. These programs can change the lives of young people and are highly regarded in our community. Our grant funding was reduced in this fiscal year. Programs are open to the public and free of charge to participants. We strive to raise the level of interest and professionalism in the literary arts primarily in Clark County, Nevada and believe we are having a positive impact. 36927 38344 Our Workshops program provided over 50 events throughout the year, held at community centers, public spaces, or via online delivery services. At least 798 members of the public were directly served, i.e. attended our workshops. Workshops are educational in nature and support the writers' efforts to find their unique personal voice. All programs are open to the public and free of charge. We strive to raise the level of interest and professionalism in the literary arts primarily in Clark County, Nevada and believe we are having a positive impact. 5899 4753 Our Reading Series hosted United States Poet Laureate Ada Limon in a much-anticipated reading and Q&A. The program also organized a successful, diverse poetry event with a focus on connecting culturally within disadvantaged communities. The program has hosted several Poets Laureate in past years, along with other notable and culturally relevant authors. Our Poetry Promise Award program recognizes and awards cash scholarships to full-time students in a writing contest judged in by the blind by Clark County Poet Laureate Angela M. Brommel, followed by a public reading featuring the winners alongside well-known local artists.
