Wild Blue Cats supports people in our community by providing opportunities for emotional/physical healing through animal therapies. Our Kids 'n Kats program focuses specifically on helping children develop skills and compassion through working with cats. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a, Program Service Accomplishments: In 2023 our focus again remained on cats since there are fewer cats rescues in El Paso County. The number of cats Wild Blue took in during 2023 was 1,787 compared to 1,688 in 2022 and 1,473 in 2021. During 2023 1,186 cats were adopted compared to 1,039 in 2022 and 966 in 2021. Best Friends Animal Society has recognized Wild Blue for consistently having a save rate of over 90%. Since Wild Blue was founded, over 10,000 cats have been positively impacted by Wild Blue, and there have been over 445 community cats in the Frontier Ferals TNR program that were fixed and vaccinated in 2023 alone. Wild Blue continues working with national organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society, Petco, and Petsmart. Wild Blue continues to work with regional agencies such as DDFL Solutions, Teller County Animal Shelter, National Mill Dog Rescue in Falcon/Peyton, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Happy Cats Haven, Feline Fix and St. Paws Thrift Store. To promote finding forever homes for our cats, Wild Blue holds adoptions events every Saturday - except when prevented from doing so by COVID concerns - which now alternate between a Petco store and a Petsmart store in Colorado Springs. In 2023, Wild Blue's veterinary partners included Aspen View Vet Hospital, Black Forest Veterinary Clinic, Four Paws Vet Clinic, High Plains Vet Hospital, Dr. Erin Davezac, Dr. Julie Sperry and Ponderosa Vet Clinic. Wild Blue continues its trap/neuter/return program - Frontier Ferals - focusing on pregnant and nursing feral cats and their kittens. Our Fix Feline Families program continued during 2023 and is funded primarily using grant funding from the Petco Foundation, Petsmart Charities and Best Friends Animal Society's Life Saving Grant. We are now also running an owned pet spay/neuter program called Kitties in Our Kommunity funded by a Colorado tax checkoff grant. Our feral cat sanctuary - Maya's Friends Wildheart Village - was expanded in 2019 to add a second sanctuary primarily for nursing and pregnant mothers. Wild Blue continues to raise funds for its Critical Care Unit and started initial construction in 2019; the pandemic slowed progress significantly in 2020; we now expect it to be completed in 2024. The unit will include a nursery for pregnant/nursing queens and neonatal orphaned kitties. The Critical Care Unit will also have space for a limited number of FIV and FeLV positive cats. Wild Blue makes extensive use of voulnteers and currently has over 600 active volunteers. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Executive Director will review the Form 990 before it is filed. A copy of the Form 990 will be provided to each Board Member. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The organization has a written conflict of interest policy that requires Officers, Directors, and employees to disclose potential conflicts of themselves and their family members. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The copy of form 1023 - application for tax exemption - the IRS approval letter and Form 990 are available to the public upon request. The organization keeps the articles of incorporation, bylaws and conflict of interest policy available to the public upon request. Part XII - Line 1 Wild Blue changed its accounting method from the cash basis to the income tax basis in 2013 to allow it to be able to track depreciation expense on its capital assets. Form 990, Part III, Line 2c The Board is responsible for overseeing and reviewing the financial statements.
