An experienced consultant had been giving him direction and guidance to complete accounting in preparation for tax filings. The consultant became very ill during COVID and became unavailable to provide the critical guidance and support. The consultant contracted cancer, was very ill, and had multiple surgeries, including being put on dialysis all through 2022. Eventually the consultant received a transplant in December 2022 and did not heal sufficiently to again become an accounting resource until late 2023. By the time the accounting was completed, reviewed and assistance received from the consultant, it was mid 2024, after the tax due date, resulting in the late tax filing.
