In prior fiscal years, expenditures were incurred in order to make structural and safety improvements to Old Sacramento Historic Buildings, construct pedestrian walkways, install lighting fixtures, and improve handicap accessibility to the historic buildings. Patronage of The Old Sacramento Underground Tours Program was well received and served approximately 16,500 visitors in the current fiscal year. 219070 119676 The Historic Education Program is designed to broaden the historic experience for visitors to Old Sacramento. This includes self-guided tour booklets, informative signs near the Sacramento River, historical scripts for horse-carriage drivers and period dress for the horse-carriage drivers. The program works with the City of Sacramento in the creation of a newsletter and web site to inform the general public of Sacramento's history during the period 1849 to 1870. A history summer camp is provided for children ages 8-12 years of age and during the academic school year School Groups are provided educational programs which cover a variety of historical topics related to early California history. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: The Center for Sacramento History is a multi-faceted program added to the Sacramento History Alliance, Inc. in a prior fiscal year. The Center of Sacramento History currently maintains the following programs and projects1. The KCRA Film Collection program supports the large collection of moving images in film, video and digital formats for future generations. SHA provides resources for the acquisition and maintenance of the KCRA Film Collection at the Center of Sacramento History.2. The Sacramento Archives Crawl program is an Archives Month event held every October. Crawlers tour among four host archives in Sacramento viewing treasures from dozens of archives and special collections libraries, visiting with archivists, and going on special behind-the-scenes tours. 3. The Speaker Series program supports the Center for Sacramento History's semi-annual event which highlights recent scholarship on the Sacramento Region, to showcase the collections at the Center, and to reach out to audiences not normally served by the Center. 4. The Tower Records Project at the Center of Sacramento History entails three overlapping phases that capture the spirit and history of the "largest music store in the known universe". The June 2012 kick-off event officially announced the project which includes digitizing selected posters, photographs, business records and correspondence, and transcribing interviews for on-line access. In addition, the goal is to open the collections for research, viewing, and listening to interested scholars, fans, and the public. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: The Sacramento Visitors Center program provides information for the historic Old Sacramento Waterfront district as well as the greater Sacramento area. The information available for visitors includes area & district maps, educational exhibits, artifact displays, and interactive experiences. Information is available for the various tours, educational programs, and tickets for these activities may be purchased at the Sacramento Visitors Center. This Sacramento Visitors Center program enhances the visibility and promotes the visitation of the historic Old Sacramento Waterfront district. The Visitors Center has served several thousand tourists during this current fiscal year.
