The grant received from NIA Tero has facilitated numerous exciting changes within our community in 2023 / 2024. Throughout the year, we have visibly witnessed the positive impacts our projects have had on our community. These impacts include participants in our partnerships graduating from their programs in record time, as well as families committing to work together on achieving sobriety. We have also begun collecting data to enhance our reporting to funders, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate how we are mitigating the effects of historical trauma on our people, culture, language, and environment. The Nia Tero Grant funded the following projects Buffalo Project, Circle Camp, Language Projec, VR Projec, Way Of Life Project, General & Admin costs and the Wayfinders Circle. 37719 Identity, Inc Grant. Hired / contracted one field technician over a 8 month period to interview elders, help tribal buffalo program, help the Tribal Historic preservation office, and inventory the Chief mountain Yellow mountain habitate area. 2. Interviewed 8 elders on the cultural spirtual connection to buffalo and the land. 3. Assisted with an estimated 50 days of buffalo management, monitored buffalo movements and habits, and 30 days of education on buffalo. 4. Performed 25 site visits at cultural and historical sites with the Blackfeet Nation Tribal Historical Preservation Office. 5. Buffalo Women has grown to 15 members and have built strong relationships and are learning together. The group has had 20 meetings since August of 2023. The progress of the holy and sacred items is 70% completed. The group is on track to accomplish the goal of initiation on July 18, 2024. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Mellon Foundation UofM - Blackfeet Eco Knowledge, Inc. assisted with the Mellon Foundation grant awarded to the University of Montana. To provide Resident Blackfeet knowledge keepers, Elders, and Shield Keepers to assist with transfer of Blackfoot knowledge to students, staff / faculty, and administration of the University of Montana serviced estimated 90 participants. This included a pipe ceremony on the oval and a sweat lodge ceremony at Ft. Missoula. ACCOMPLISHMENTS 1. Exchange of Blackfoot culture to give a accurate interpretation of indigenous cultural knowledge. 2. Students of University of Montana, Shield keepers and Guardians will be acquiring specific Blackfoot values and knowledge for success.3.
