It also funded schools and programs to educate and prepare for employment approximately 1,000 children, teenagers, and adults who are living in poverty. It also provided household assistance, food, social programs, and library and computer facilities to people living within the Amazon's leper colony. It also constructed community buildings and communication facilities to benefit people living in remote areas of the jungle. It also funded programs to serve indigenous peoples and others who live in remote areas of the jungle. Fredricks, the Vice President of Amazon Relief, customarily travel to the Amazon a minimum of twice each year to monitor the organization's programs. In October of each year, they typically meet with school principals or others who are responsible for overseeing the programs on a day-to-day basis. James B. Flickinger and/or Daniel J. Fredricks reviews with them the expenses for the current year and proposed budgets for the following year. They also visit the schools and other programs being assisted. They meet with the teachers, meet with the students, meet with the lepers, and confirm that programs are operating as planned. Upon return to the United States, this information is presented to Amazon Relief's board of directors, and in October or November decisions are normally made concerning funding of the programs for the following year. Then each year in April (normally) James B. Flickinger and/or Daniel J. Fredricks returns to the Amazon and once again meets with principals, staff, students, and others who participate in the programs. In addition, throughout the year James B. Flickinger and Daniel J. Fredricks are in regular contact with all program directors via e-mail and telephone.
