The Library's policy is not to capitalize these collections. Each of the items are cataloged, cared for and preserved. All proceeds resulting from the deaccessioning of objects from the collection shall be allocated for the benefit of the collections. Part III, Line 4: The Library maintains and develops a variety of resources used in the direct support of its mission of public education and meeting the information needs of southern Maine citizens. The collections include substantial print and media items as well as archival and digital collections that are lent and/or made available through the Library's website. The collections are primarily purchased through the endowment and earned income generated by the Library and number over 600,000 items. Part V, Line 4: The intended uses of the significant endowment funds are to support general operations and to build the Library's collections. The Library also has endowments to support the Library's programs. Form 990 - Part V - Line 2a The Library has included the approximate number of employees reported on Form W-3 filed for the calendar year ending 2022. Employees of the Library are reported on the City of Portland's Form W-3 and therefore only an approximate amount can be provided for this line item. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The prepared Form 990 is reviewed by the Finance Committee and provided to the Board of Trustees prior to filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Prior to taking a position on the Board of Trustees, each Trustee must submit to the President of the Board of Trustees a list of all businesses and other organizations of which he or she is an officer, trustee, member, owner (either as a sole proprietor or a partner), a shareholder, employee or agent with which the Library has, or might be expected to have, a relationship or a transaction in which the Trustee might have a conflicting interest. A written disclosure statement is resubmitted by each Trustee on an annual basis. The President of the Board and the Board of Trustees reviews the statements of all Trustees in order to guide the conduct of the Board of Trustees should such a conflict arise. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15b The Search Committee reviewed comparability data prior to establishing the compensation of the Executive Director. Thereafter, the change in compensation has been subject to the collective bargaining agreement with all other employees. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Library's By-laws, which contain conflict of interest provisions, are available on the website. The financial statements are available upon request.
