Form 990, Part XI, Line 9 Uncollectible amounts from former members Dear IRS representative, I am writing to request that the late payment penalty for the River Farm Cooperative 2022 tax payment be reduced or eliminated for reasonable cause. For background, our small, non-profit private school has an all volunteer board who manage most of the administrative aspects of the business. The board members often change from year to year, and transfer of information is challenging. For the 2022 tax year, our treasurer for the 2022-2023 school year left immediately upon completion of the school year (family moved to a different party of the state), but had filed a tax extension for the year. The new treasurer, assuming the role in June, made the erroneous assumption that taxes had been filed correctly by the May 15th deadline. The breakdown in communication during board transition caused the delay in payment. We are filing the taxes today, April 1st, on the first day that the current school board became aware of the lapse. We are operating to the best of our capacity given the chaos of an all-volunteer run school board, and request that you consider this reasonable cause request for eliminating the late payment penalty for the 2022 filing.
