<Desc>A Time to ListenNovember 5 24, 2020A Time to Listen was a series of online conversations designed to learn from the past, apply what we know to the present, and come together to prepare for the future. Created as a compliment to the New York City AIDS December program Hear Me: Voices of the Epidemic, this series was made up of six, approximately one-hour-long conversations. A Time to Listen was fully virtual, due to COVID-19, in a webinar format, and hosted by Theodore (ted) Kerr, a writer, organizer and artist whose work focuses on HIV/AIDS, community, and culture, and Dave Harper, Executive Director of the New York City AIDS Memorial. Each of the six episodes featured a wide breadth of expert co-hosts and guests with centuries of activism, advocacy, and history between them including author Alysia Abbott, researcher and professor Jennifer Brier, Ph.D, poet Timothy DuWhite, critic Kenyon Farrow, activist and actress Cecilia Gentili, writer Stephen Hicks, DJ Danny Krivit, playwright Donja R. Love, veteran journalist and activist Ann Northrop, performance artist Sheldon Raymore, journalist Mathew Rodriguez, community organizer Kiara St. James, and community organizers Krishna Stone and Jason Walker. Each conversation focused on a topic relevant to the curation of the content for Hear Me. From oral history to news clips; found footage to dance songs, poetry, theater, and iconic speeches, A Time to Listen allowed us to share moments of engaging audio and video, enlightening conversations with history makers, insider information from community members, and opportunities for our audience to share their personal memories and insights all while making the process of research for Hear Me more transparent.</Desc>

<Desc>Hear Me: Voices of the EpidemicDecember 1 31, 2020Hear Me: Voices of the Epidemic was an original, open-space, touch-free, and experiential sound-and-light-based public installation that ran December 1-31, 2020. The soundtrack of the installation was composed of historical texts, poetry, speeches, music, and more that capture the history of the epidemic. Examples include a powerful speech by Vito Russo (1946-90), a song composed by Michael Callen (1955-93), historic recordings of an ACT UP-led protest made by artist David Wojnarowicz (1954-92), and poems by Melvin Dixon (1950-92) and Kia LaBeija, who was born in 1990 at St. Vincents Hospital, on whose former site the Memorial sits today. Visitors were welcomed to hear the program, accompanied by a distinctive lighting installation, through December 2020. Hear Me was preceded each day, beginning at 10 a.m., by a recording featuring the names of over 2,000 New Yorkers, representing a fraction of the 100,000+ lost to AIDS, and read by What Would an HIV Doula Do?, a group of activists, caregivers, friends, long-term survivors of HIV/AIDS, and people living with HIV today. Hear Me invited audiences to experience both the transformation of the permanent structure of the New York City AIDS Memorial by using state-of-the-art speakers and advanced lighting systems designed by leading engineering firm Arup. This program was free and open to the public and could easily be experienced while maintaining all advised social distancing protocols, in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hear Me was the third exhibition under the New York City AIDS Memorial Arts and Education Initiative and received press coverage in the New York Times, The Guardian, New York Magazine, and other outlets.</Desc>

<Desc>Revival: Survivors StoriesJune 5, June 30, and October 12, 202140 years ago, the first reports of a strange new disease began to circulate in the press and, in particular, among the LGBTQ+ community. Little was known at the time and few could have foreseen the devastation emerging on the horizon. We also could not begin to imagine the four decades of stories of loss, fear, triumph, courage, resilience, and hope that would come from it.To acknowledge this milestone, The Generations Project and New York City AIDS Memorial partnered throughout 2021 to present a storytelling series at the Memorial that sought stories from folks of all ages and backgrounds who have experienced living with and surviving HIV/AIDS, as long-term survivors, friends, or family who've been impacted by the epidemic. After a series of free online writing workshops in May 2021 run by the Generations Project, the first storytelling event was held at the New York City AIDS Memorial on June 5, 2021 - the 40th Anniversary of the first reports of AIDS by the CDC and the annual observance of HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day. Subsequent events were held on June 30, 2021, closing out New York Citys Pride Month celebrations, and on October 12, 2021. Video footage of the fifteen diverse storytellers who took part in Revival remain available online.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>PART X, LINE 2:NYCAM HAS ADOPTED ACCOUNTING STANDARDS CODIFICATION ("ASC") 740 "INCOME TAXES." ASC 740 REQUIRES THAT A TAX POSITION BE RECOGNIZED OR DERECOGNIZED BASED ON A "MORE LIKELY THAN NOT" THRESHOLD. THIS APPLIES TO POSITIONS TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN IN A TAX RETURN. THE ADOPTION OF THIS GUIDANCE DID NOT HAVE AN IMPACT ON NYCAM'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, AS MANAGEMENT BELIEVES THAT THERE ARE NO UNCERTAIN TAX POSITIONS WITHIN ITS FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. NYCAM HAS PROCESSES PRESENTLY IN PLACE TO ENSURE THE MAINTENANCE OF ITS TAX-EXEMPT STATUS; TO IDENTIFY AND REPORT UNRELATED INCOME; DETERMINE ITS FILING AND TAX OBLIGATIONS IN JURISDICTIONS FOR WHICH IT HAS NEXUS; AND TO REVIEW OTHER MATTERS THAT MAY BE CONSIDERED TAX POSITIONS.NYCAM'S FORM 990, RETURN OF ORGANIZATION EXEMPT FOR INCOME TAX, FOR THE YEARS ENDING OCTOBER 31, 2018, 2019 AND 2020 ARE SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION BY THE IRS, GENERALLY FOR THREE YEARS AFTER THEY WERE FILED.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Kiki BallJune 29, 2021In 1993, the AIDS Service Center NYC (now Alliance for Positive Change) opened its Lower East Side Drop-In Center in the same building as Performance Space 122. Among the locals impacted by HIV/AIDSthe population the organization supportsare many young LGBTQ people of color who are members of the Kiki scene. Emerging out of the historical House/Ballroom community, the Kiki scene is a highly organized and creative youth-led organization. It centers around so-called houses, with complex kinship structures, that function as vital support systemssupport systems that the government and biological families often fail to provide. The underground scene is best known for its lavish balls, where performers present their unique looks and movement styles, competing in different categories for their respective houses. Kiki Ball celebrates the neighborship between Alliance for Positive Change and Performance Space New York, and the shared belief by the New York City AIDS Memorial that community and performative expression can save lives. Due to COVID-19, the event was held outdoors for the first time where we were able to provide free HIV and COVID-19 testing for all attendees. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: A Village GatheringSeptember 11, 2021On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Greenwich House Music School, The New York City AIDS Memorial, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Art2Action, Inc., and Village Preservation held A Village Gathering at the New York City AIDS Memorial Park. Our organizations joined together to create space for reflection, remembrance, and creative expression. This event, held under the shade of the AIDS Memorial, and surrounding park grounds offered attendees and passersby a communal experience to mark this day. There were also opportunities for community members to record their own stories as part of this event. Hosted by Troy Anthony, the afternoon featured selections from Andrea Assaf's 11 Reflections, Ash Marinaccio's 20 Years Later, and James Scruggs' Severe Clear, with music by Scott Johnson and Victor Caccese. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Bill Goldstein TalkSeptember 22, 2021This year marked the 40th anniversary of the first reports of the disease that became known as AIDS. Bill Goldstein, who is writing a biography of the activist and playwright Larry Kramer, joined New York City AIDS Memorial Executive Director Dave Harper for a gathering to discuss Kramers early calls to community activism that summer and fall forty years ago, drawing largely on Kramers unpublished letters and journals.</ExplanationTxt>
