Refugee Language Project provided weekly literacy classes to 18 refugee students from multiple refugee communities during 2021. Refugee Language Project provided 34 mentorships in 2021, serving 95 refugees from various refugee communities. Approximately 700 volunteer hours were conducted in these face to face meetings in refugee homes, assisting with areas such as English language practice, citizenship training, and job application assistance. Refugee Language project is collecting the stories of Amarillo's refugees and converting these into storybooks written in both English, and their native languages. The result being a series of illustrated books that enable adults to learn to read and write in both their native languages and in English; equip children to connect with their parents' cultures, allow space for refugees to process their own traumas, and honor the experiences of the refugees who call Amarillo home.
