The exhibit includes displays of mushroom collected from the region, divided by class, spore color, and other features. The show also includes tables for mushroom identification, cooking demonstrations, a microscopy section, mushroom cultivation, dying with mushrooms, lectures, a childrens table, along with book sales. Ben Woo Memorial Foray: A members only weekend educational session with speakers, classes and field trips exploring the forests, collecting and discussing the numerous species collected. Any questions regarding the request are submitted to the person requesting the grant. The grant is then discussed and referred to the Board of Trustees with a recommendation to fund or not to fund. After Board approval, any Funding request is submitted to the treasurer for payment. Report as to distribution is in the Treasurers report for that month. Current guidelines are:As organization of volunteer amateur mycologists, the PSMS wishes to fund the projects of enthusiasts who need financial assistance to reach their goal related to the study of mycology.Grants will be awarded for small amounts up to $3000 each calendar year.Applications will be due March 1st and September 1st.Grants will be allocated for projects, studies, equipment and educational events related to Mycology.Members of the Puget Sound Mycological Society, educators, and research and projects conducted in the Pacific Northwest will be given preference for the grants.Recipients may be requested to present a report or program about the project. To apply, potential recipients must present a: 2-page proposal that includes: 1) a description of the research that will be conducted, 2) a budget and budget justification, and 3) a list of references/cited literature (not included in the page limit). The proposed budget and budget justification should indicate all expenses that the scholarship would be used towards, including travel expenses and/or research supplies. Organizational document changes Part VI line 4 Two By-laws changes were proposed and accepted: Article V, Section 8 quorum was clarified to be over 50% board members. Article VI sections 7, Although PSMS has always had an open policy for members attending board meetings, rules governing this were never included. The following was proposed: PSMS members may observe Board meetings or may be invited to speak regarding a particular topic during the meeting. Only Board members have the right to speak during Board discussions, non-board members must be invited to do so. Members or stockholder classes and rights Part VI line 6 Individual or family: $30 (2 Adults only per family membership)Full-time student: $20 (with valid student ID) Member election for additional members Part VI line 7a ARTICLE VIII Nominations and Election Section 1 Nominations. At each regular Board meeting in November, the Board will appoint a Nominating Committee consisting of at least 3 Members, none of whom may be Board members seeking re-election. At least one member of the Nominating Committee should be a non-Board member. The Nominating Committee will canvas the eligible Members and nominate Members for each of the open Board member positions that need to be filled at the next election. At the regular December and January Membership meetings, the Nominating Committee will announce the names of the Members nominated as of that time, and the Members may also nominate from the floor additional candidates for any of the open Board positions at those meetings. After taking all nominations from the floor at the January Membership meeting, nominations will be closed. A candidate for an Officer position may also be a candidate for a Trustee position, and in the event that person is elected as an Officer, that persons votes as Trustee will be disregarded and not counted in any way. Section 2 Voting. No later than 30 days after nominations are closed, the Nominating Committee will prepare and mail or email (or provide by other electronic means) to all voting Memberships ballots that list the open Board member positions, and the names of all candidates for each position. The ballots will contain a return date that is no more than 7 days before the March Members meeting by which all Members must return their ballots to the Nominating Committee in order to be counted. At any time after the return date, the chairperson of the Nominating Committee will call and hold a Nominating Committee meeting for the purpose of opening and counting the ballots. No candidate running for a Board position will be allowed to count ballots. A plurality of all ballots cast for a candidate for an Officer position will elect that candidate to that office, and the 5 candidates for Trustee who have the most votes will constitute the current years Trustee positions on the Board. The next 3 Trustee candidates with the greatest number of votes will be alternate Trustees. The President will announce the names of all elected Board members at the March Members meeting. The new Board members will take office at the regular April Board meeting. The Board will retain the ballots or electronic results (as applicable) in the principal office for one year after the election. Significant program services not listed on prior year return Part III line 2 PSMS received a $45,000 donation in September 2021 for a donor designated new project, a Fungal DNA Citizen Science Sequencing Project. This was matched with a $45,000 donation from the donors employer, Microsoft. The work is or will be done by a very small group of knowledgeable, professional mycologists and citizen scientists. Part III response or note to any other line in Part III Program Accomplishments, Part III, Line 4a: Meetings are held in-person and virtually to accommodate a wider audience, particularly for those who are unable to attend in person. In person meeting guests frequently bring in mushroom found on hikes or in the neighborhood for identification prior to the start of the presentation.
